This handsome Federal style building was constructed in the late 1700's and stands as one of the oldest structures constructed in Charleston's plan of single house-one room wide, two primary rooms to a floor and stairwell centered between the primary rooms. From the Historic Charleston Foundation, ''89 Broad Street was probably erected after 1786 by Maj. Stephen Lee, a watchmaker and planter, on land inherited from his wife's father, Paul Smyser.'' The building was extensively renovated in 1999-2000 and is currently occupied by law offices; however, could be converted into a residence or live/work building.Wonderful fireplaces adorn each of the four rooms on the second and third floors. A full size attic is easily accessible for storage or to be converted into two other living spaces.
